1 Add On: Top Moments of 2009.

I completely forgot the infamous night of leg wrestling. That was definitely a moment of 2009.

Best Moments: 2009 Edition

I love putting together end of year lists; list of films, list of music, lists of the best lists, and so in true list form, here is a Top Ten Moments of 2009. I imagine there are quite a few things I can’t remember (for a multitude of reasons) so I’m sure I’ve forgotten some delightful days and if I have, I apologize. This list made me realize despite everything (and like anyone’s life, this year had some awfulness) when I write down the moments, the moments where I laughed and smiled and was happy, I realize that in fact 2009 was kind of awesome. Please note, these are in no particular order.
-- Clermont – with Stef in our hotel room, laughing so hard I fell off the bed, breaking the bed in which I would hilariously and drunkenly sleep for seven more nights.
-- Boot’s Wedding – With Heather dancing to Walking on Sunshine… and literally feeing like I was walking on sunshine.
--Random dance party at Aquila… whilst Fred and Stef danced like the classy French assholes they are. Then closing down a sushi restaurant at 3am, while Fred and I tried to ignore the girl trying to mop.
--Timmins night in Toronto with Carly, part of which was spent retrieving a ring from a sewer (i.e. retrieving Jesus from a sewer).
--Any Wednesday night with Missy. Occasionally eating lobster bisque, talking about therapy, weddings and anything else.
--The last time we hung out as room mates, Andrew and I drunkenly watched student films and it was pure joy.
--Unintentionally becoming the Sexless Innkeeper which was preceded by hilarious times in a secret room of a bar and hilarious discussions of pirates.
--MFM in Sudbury—and having worlds collide somewhat awkwardly but ultimately being unbelievably amazing.
--Travelling with my platonic life partner/wife Maggie; getting trapped in rooms, checking out castles, shooting guns and protecting her from somewhat insane Eastern European Men.
--Making strawberry shortcake with Maggie and James after doing that thing I might have done too often in 2009

Honorouable mentions: (that really did make the list but you can only have ten)
--Hanging out with Kam in a magical city by a magical ravine, eating cheese and drinking wine, discussing monogamy.
--The Wolfe Island Music Festival with Julie and Mud and laughing so hard at Mud’s I almost threw up.
--Driving to North Bay with Missy (i.e. winner of most valuable friend award) picking up furniture and immediately driving back to Toronto.

--Hanging out at Stef's with Mr. Pybus, drinking too much wine and having the most incredible talks about everything and anything.

Lines for Winter by Mark Strand

Tell yourself
as it gets cold and gray falls from the air
that you will go on
walking, hearing
the same tune no matter where
you find yourself --
inside the dome of dark
or under the cracking white
of the moon's gaze in a valley of snow.
Tonight as it gets cold
tell yourself
what you know which is nothing
but the tune your bones play
as you keep going. And you will be able
for once to lie down under the small fire
of winter stars.
And if it happens that you cannot
go on or turn back and you find yourself
where you will be at the end,
tell yourself
in that final flowing of cold through your limbs
that you love what you are.

I Wish I Worked Here.

I wish I had this much fun on a regular basis. And I'm pretty sure Simon Pegg and Kristin Wig are a bit in love.

Seriously Fantastic Mr. Fox

Remember that time I had a post about eagerly anticipating The Fantastic Mr. Fox... well dear friends, it was amazing. I'm pretty sure it's perfect. In the theater I alternated between laughter and amazement... It was written by Wes Anderson (you know, director and writer of my favorite movie Rushmore) and Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale and Kicking and Screaming -- not the Will Ferrell one... a really great movie not about soccer).
The movie is hilarious and sweet and the animation is amazing. AND the music is out of control. At one point Jarvis Cocker breaks into song... and it's unbelievable. I also particularly like how they don't swear but instead say cuss... for instance, this movie is cussing awesome... why the cuss haven't you seen it yet?

Fallon: Kind of Awesome.

Recently I've been thinking that Jimmy Fallon is kind of awesome. Seventh Floor West was amazing, he's kind of adorable and he's no longer as awkward or jumpy as he used to be. I kind of love him, particularly when he geeks out on guests. And with my newfound love for the Fallon, this impersonation (which I know is seven days old) is essentially the illegitimate love child of a few of my favorite things(Jimmy Fallon, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Neil Young, hilarity).

A Proposal.

Dear Ben Whishaw,
So two months ago I predicted you were going to be a big deal. I'm still predicting that. But I was thinking before you become the next Daniel Day Lewis, potentially we could you know, make out. You know or get married or run away together. I saw you in Bright Star on Saturday, which was amazing. And I don't want to scare you but I might love you. I loved you in Brideshead Revisited and I loved you in that Bob Dylan film... but seriously in Bright Star you are unbelievably captivating and beautiful and natural and adorable. I love how emaciated you look and how sweet you seem. I love that you always look like you've just come off a bender but are still ridiculously poetic and articulate. When you're on screen, you really make it impossible to look anywhere else. So basically, Ben Whishaw please marry me.
xoxo Kara

PS. Of course if you're gay... we could just be best friends.
